Globe valve is used for throttling flow control. Shut-off is accomplished by moving the disc against the flow stream rather than across it as in a gate valve. The flow path involves changes in direction, giving greater resistance and high pressure drop. It is suited to on-off service and frequent cycling, is uni-directional and must be installed with the inlet (pressure) side under the seat, following the flow direction arrow on the body.
