PROcess FIeld BUS is a fieldbus standard for communication in automation technology, linking controllers or control systems with decentralised field devices (sensors and actuators) via a single bus cable. The DP type carries data between a controller and field devices, preferably in factory automation, while the PA type connects via a coupler or linking device for process automation, e.g. in hazardous environments. The cable has bare copper stranded conductors, foam PE insulation, aluminium Mylar foil and 65% braid screen, with PVC or PUR outer sheath options and armoured versions for direct burial. More variants (flexible, steel braid, LSZH halogen free) are available.
